Does My Cat Need Clothes?

Its getting cold and many pet owners wonder if their cat needs extra protection. Majority of cats cope with the cold weather and do not need the added protection from clothes. Some can struggle to keep warm in winter, despite their fur coats.

Here are some helpful tips to help you determine if your furry friend needs a little top to keep them warm...We always recommend that you ask your Vet if clothing will be suitable for your cat. Every cat is different and we only want the best result for yours

• Breed Of Cat

Not all cat breeds feel the cold the same way. Some breeds are less adapted to cold climates and require extra protection. Cats that may benefit from a winter top include Sphinx, Cornish Rex, Devon Rex, Orientals and any other breed with very short hair | no hair.

Cats can often struggle to regulate their body temperature and are more prone to feeling the cold. Their lower body fat and having a thinner covering of fur means these breeds lose heat quickly due to their lack of insulation.

• Health & After Surgery

Cats with certain health conditions may be more susceptible to the cold and could benefit from extra protection of a top.

Cats with allergies, who scratch a lot destroy their fur and skin layers making them more prone to skin disorders and infections. A soft, light, comfortable top could help relieve these symptoms. When in doubt, always ask your vet.

Sometimes, after surgery when your cat is just lying around recovering, a warm top can help with comfort and warmth.

• Senior Cats

As cats age, senior cats are more prone to health issues, making them more sensitive to the cold. They may develop thinner fur and lose muscle mass which affects their ability to stay warm and regulate body temperature.

⚠️ CAUTION On Wearing Cat Tops

We DO NOT recommend you let your cat outside in their clothing as climbing trees and other objects could cause them to get hooked or stuck on things.

ALWAYS keep them inside with tops on and keep a watchful eye on them. Some cats try to get out of them and can get stuck.

ALWAYS be cautious around open fires and heating appliances, that they dont catch fire! Also, you do not want to over heat your cat.
